The World Is Gray

I try to make my bed every morning… I didn’t used to.  Ever since this has become somewhat of a habit I’ve come to observe how strange the aftermath of my sleep is from day to day.  Some mornings it’s as if I merely napped.  One side of the bed is practically undisturbed, and a small corner lifted for cover on the other.  Pillows propped against the headboard in their “presentation mode.”

Well, not today.  The vortex of a stage II tornado landed somewhere in the northeast corner, with three pillows catapulted to the floor.  One was well beyond arms reach.  Needless to say my dreams were vivid and my anxiety high…all due to today’s shoot involving 1 girl and 1 gun. A real gun.

So…

We shall see tonight when the camera starts clicking…but in the meantime I have one more exciting thing to share.  I have regressed.  And I mean REGRESSED by about 40 years and picked up a sublime legend in film photography…the Pentax K1000.

I really look forward to the simplicity of the K1000.  And I’m sure I’ll learn/relearn quite a bit in the process.   A good friend turned me onto the desaturated quality in film, which I agree is beautiful…whereas my images have been mostly high-impact, glossy splash of bubble pop for a while.  Not so suited to shots like those below taken from my window just now. Even though I can play with them in post, I am curious to see what happens with a roll of Kodak or Fuji.

I call this series "the afterglow"....
